Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ)

Spring Internship

The Conservation Kids’ Club is geared towards children 12 and under. During the spring of 2008 my job was to completely overhaul the Web site concept and make it more appealing and child friendly. Meetings will be held quarterly and the Web site will now include animal profiles, zoo job profiles, animal themed recipes and accessible conservation information for children. New information will be posted every two months to allow children to stay involved and interested in the National Zoo.

The following are two examples:

In the spring of 2008 I wrote a grant proposal asking for money to create two family guides for Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ). This was submitted to and eventually accepted by the Smithsonian Women’s Committee with some slight alterations from the original document. The family guide that will be created will allow visitors the opportunity to learn about some of the Smithsonian’s top science projects and conservation initiatives as well as many fun facts about animals throughout the Zoo. Through thought-provoking discussion and creative activities, the guides will provide families with an opportunity to socialize together and to learn about science education in an informal setting, thus creating a more enriching zoo experience.
